About Myself
I have been a practising Veterinary Surgeon for the past 38 years, but it was in 1986 that I first encountered Homeopathy. Having attended a series of courses at The Royal Homoeopathic Hospital in London, I eventually sat and passed the examination for the qualification of Veterinary Member of the Faculty of Homeopathy (VetMFHom) in1991. Shortly after this I attended courses in Acupuncture, and have been using both modalities in my working life on a daily basis, alongside more conventional medicine and surgery, ever since. The majority of my professional life has been spent as a partner in a mixed animal practice in Pembrokeshire, but I have recently returned to South East England to be nearer my family. I now see small animal patients by referral from their own Vets at Black Notley, (near Braintree), and in Maldon, Essex.
I firmly believe that whilst Homeopathy and Acupuncture alone have powerful curative effects on many cases of injury and disease, they can, and in some cases should, be used alongside conventional treatment. Whilst treatment with orthodox drugs and surgical intervention are excellent, and often essential for Acute illnesses, it is the treatment of Chronic disease where Homeopathy and Acupuncture can be of immense help in reducing or eliminating the need for long term drug therapy.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been used in various cultures for thousands of years. It was not until the end of the 18th Century, however, that a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, formalised a scientific approach to Homeopathy. It is Hahnemann's work that is still the basis of the Homeopathy that we use today.
There are two fundamental principles of Homeopathy - the Law of Similars and the concept of Potentisation.

The Law of Similars.
Hahnemann coined the Latin phrase - Similia Similibum Curentur ( Let Like be cured by Like). A Homeopathic remedy is selected on the basis that the symptoms of the patient's illness should be, as near as possible, the same as the symptoms that a healthy individual would experience, if they were to take that medicine in a dose or doses large enough to produce symptoms.
Potency:
In order to find the minimum dose of a Homeopathic remedy that would still be curative, Hahnemann discovered that by a series of dilutions and succussions (vigorous shaking), the medicine not only retained its potency, but was actually enhanced by this process. The more times a medicine was diluted and succussed, the more powerful it became in its ability to cure, whilst at the same time eliminating any 'side effects' or toxicity.
Thus, unlike many of today's medicines, Homeopathic remedies do not have any ill effects whatsoever, and can be used with complete safety.
